NOURISH Study – Are you less than 11 weeks pregnant?

The NOURISH Study (Nutritional Online sUrvey for pRegnancy Induced Sickness & Hyperemesis) is looking for participants in their first trimester of pregnancy to take part in research. Plymouth University are running the study in collaboration with UK Pregnancy Sickness Support.

They’re trying to find out how best to support healthy pregnancies and babies. The focus will be on those affected by severe nausea and vomiting (Hyperemesis Gravidarum or HG). This means they need both people who experience HG, and those who don’t!

Can you help?

What is the aim of the NOURISH study?

  • The aim of this project is to assess the nutritional intake and wellbeing of women experiencing severe pregnancy sickness.
  • They’re also interested in learning more about people who experience no pregnancy sickness, or mild sickness, for comparison.
  • They would love to hear from you if you are <11 weeks pregnant, over 18 years old and living in the UK.
  • If you would like to take part in the study, please read the information sheet and then get in touch by emailing [email protected].
  • If you have any friends or family who meet the above criteria, please let them know about the study.

How will the study work?

  • They will recruit pregnant women experiencing severe sickness via Pregnancy Sickness Support, alongside others with mild or no sickness.
  • They will email an online questionnaire and a link to an electronic food diary app. This will be to record your dietary intake on three occasions during pregnancy.
  • You’ll also receive a final brief questionnaire approximately two weeks after birth.
