Chesterfield Hospital’s maternity care is provided at a “purpose built and individually designed Birth Centre at Chesterfield Royal Hospital”. It opened in January 2010 and has “8 Consultant led care rooms, including 1 with birth pool, and a further 4 midwifery led care rooms, including 3 with birth pools.”
The website says they provide a wide range of choices and options, including “consultant care, shared care and midwife only care, including home birth.” They’ve also published a short selection of Patient Information Leaflets on the website.
The website states that “full paediatric support services are available, including intensive care for pre-term babies. Breastfeeding is promoted throughout the maternity service and is supported by a full-time infant feeding adviser. The Trust is committed to supporting mothers to breastfeed and has UNICEF Baby Friendly accreditation.”
You can find data about Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust maternity care on the new Data Dashboard here (best attempted on a laptop or PC as it’s a pretty big and complicated Power BI interface!):
It’s a bit confusing to begin with! But you select the trust you’re interested in from the drop down, and then you can look at the various data sets available and see how the trust compares nationally. In the image below, as an example, I’ve selected the NMI+ dataset which looks at how Chesterfield compares with Derby and Burton on User Experience, from 2019.
Please note that at the point of receiving the policies in March 2022 (thanks Alex, who submitted these!), the ‘Obesity Management in Pregnancy’ policy was under review and the updated version was awaiting sign off. So anyone reading this should probably consider the policy below an ‘old’ version, and request an updated one directly. Information on how to submit a Freedom of Information request can be found here.
